Midway through 2021, we were contacted by Jake and Lily to assist with accounting services for their Pilates studio.
They were recommended to our team because we are small business start-ups and wellness industry accounting experts – so it was a perfect match!
However, our team knew we would provide more than the standard accounting services for their business.
STRONG Pilates is a boutique fitness studio offering reformer Pilates, strength and conditioning, cardio, and rowing exercises – all within the one session!
While STRONG Pilates is a franchise, Jake and Lily now proudly own the Hunter’s two studios located in Broadmeadow and Warners Bay.
When they were looking to open their first studio in Broadmeadow, Jake and Lily got in touch with our team to discover how we could assist. They knew they needed professional advice around balancing their finances, as well as how to operate the business efficiently and effectively.
“When we first engaged with Marika and her team, we were focused on making sure the business was set up correctly not only for the start but for the future growth we had planned,” Jake said.
“However, it quickly became more than ensuring the business was set up properly. Marika has become more than our accountant – she’s a trusted advisor who we love working with.”

Prior to working with our team, their business had been structured incorrectly, and it didn’t align with their business plan. We assisted with redeveloping their structure to help facilitate Jake and Lily’s goals.
It was clear after the business began that STRONG Pilates would quickly grow to more than one studio, with their number of members steadily increasing.
As their business has grown, our team has continued to provide accounting services to ensure their operations can run smoothly.
“Marika and her team make everything easy,” Lily said.
“They are fantastic at explaining everything in layman’s terms, in a way that doesn’t make us feel like we don’t know anything. But making sure we are armed with the information we need to make an informed decision.”
Beyond accounting advice, Marika has worked closely with Jake and Lily on strategic planning for the business.
“Since our business has grown, the advising perspective and forward thinking from Marika and her team has been invaluable,” Jake said.
“They also recommended the bookkeeper who we now work with, and the cohesion between the two businesses has been fantastic.”
For Jake and Lily, our team are more than just their accountants. We have built a hands-on relationship and have learned about their business inside out. So much so, our whole team are members at the studio!
“It’s really nice being able to work closely with the Valorium team, but also have a friendly relationship with them outside of business,” Jake said.
Since opening in 2021, the business has continued on a successful trajectory, opening their second location in Warners Bay in 2023. While we work closely with small-business start-ups, our goal is to always see these businesses thrive, and continue to assist with their accounting as they grow.
“It’s been fantastic working with an accounting team who have been able to grow with us as our business grows,” Lily said.
“We wouldn’t have been able to open another studio without Marika’s advice. She has helped us understand what is possible for our business, and the room we had to grow.”
Jake and Lily are excited for their future business plans, with an additional studio opening in the Hunter region soon.
